Obama Signs Health Care Bill into Law; A Step Forward for America
By Blake Reinken, Grade 7
There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. After a passing vote of 219-212 with the U.S House of Representatives, President Obama signs his health-care bill giving 95-97% of americans health-care by 2019 (unlike the less than 85% that have it now). This bill allows all children to stay on there parents health care package until they are 26 (rather then to 18, or 21 in collage, now). But those are only some of the perks, the bill doesn’t allow people to get dropped by their health-care provider just because they get a chronic illness. This bill will save the lives of most of the 10,000+ people that die each year do to treatable diseases, due to the fact that they don’t have health care and can’t afford medication.
Many people oppose this bill because of the increase it will bring to the Upper Class , religious issues, and various things. Even though these things are important, isn’t it worth paying a little bit more (1%) to help save the lives of good people who can’t afford to pay for their medication. A personal inspiration for Obama was his mom, “Today, I’m signing this reform bill into law on behalf of my mother, who argued with insurance companies even as she battled cancer in her final days.” He said.
